Emperipolesis of neutrophils by dysmorphic megakaryocytes
American Journal of Hematology, 1982AbstractNeutrophil engulfment by megakaryocytes was observed within 20 to 30% of megakaryocytes from two children: one with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma, the other with fever of unknown origin. Other cell types and neutrophil precursors were not observed within megakaryocytes.

Emperipolesis, entosis and beyond: Dance with fate
Cell Research, 2008Study of cell-in-cell phenomena began with the desire to understand the complex phenotype, which stemmed from Lewis' observation of non-phagocytotic process of cell-eating-cell in 1925 1. Humble et al. coined the term “emperipolesis” (from the Greek, wandering round about within) in 1950s, to define the heterogeneous cell-in-cell phenomena when they ...

Lymphocyte Emperipolesis in Human Glial Cells
Cell Adhesion and Communication, 1993Astrocytes have been observed to contain intact, viable lymphocytes within their cytoplasm (emperipolesis) in multiple sclerosis plaques and some brain tumors. This study characterizes the adhesive, emperipoletic and phagocytic properties of glial cells in culture.

Emperipolesis and Annulate Lamellae in Erythroleukaemia
Scandinavian Journal of Haematology, 1983The bone marrow in the erythraemic phase of 2 erythroleukaemic patients was studied electron microscopically.Emperipolesis of erythrocytes as well as annulate lamellae were revealed in the cytoplasm of the erythroblasts of these cases. It is assumed that these findings show a high rate of erythroblastic proliferation.

Inflammatory Myxohyaline Tumor with Massive Emperipolesis
Pathology - Research and Practice, 2002We report on a 36-year-old man with a recurrent mass on the thenar side of the right hand. Against the background of dense inflammation, inflammatory malignant fibrous histiocytoma was first diagnosed, but typical morphologic features in the recurrent tumor led to a correction of the diagnosis--inflammatory myxohyaline tumor.

H syndrome is a recently described autosomal recessive disorder characterized by indurated, hyperpigmented, and hypertrichotic cutaneous plaques, mainly involving the lower abdomen and lower extremities. Associated systemic manifestations include hepatosplenomegaly, heart anomalies, hearing loss, hypogonadism, low height, and hyperglycemia.

Emperipolesis of Lymphoid Neoplastie Cells in Feline Hepatocytes
Veterinary Pathology, 1989Occasional lymphocytes and other leukocytes in guinea pig, rabbit, and human hepatocytes were described in 1944.2 Here we report emperipolesis in the liver of two cats with severe liver damage and intracellular neoplastic lymphoid cells in most hepatocytes.

Nodal Langerhans cell histiocytosis with prominent eosinophilic emperipolesis
Diagnostic Cytopathology, 2015Multinucleated giant cells of osteoclastic type are known to occur in nodal and extranodal lesions of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH). These giant cells are thought to be derived from phagocytic histiocytes, which correlate with the degree of necrosis in LCH lesions.
