Impact of N‐linked glycans on the dual short fibulin/LTBP‐4 axes regulating elastogenesis

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Elastic fiber assembly is orchestrated by multiple glycoproteins. We delineate the molecular basis of two key axes involved in elastic fiber formation—LTBP‐4L/fibulin‐4 and LTBP‐4S/fibulin‐5. We show that N‐linked glycans on these glycoproteins regulate their interactions and conformations, both of which are critical aspects in elastic fiber formation.

Clinical Usefulness of Early Evaluation of the Bacteriological Effect of Antibiotics Administered as Empiric Therapy Using the Fully Automated Urine Particle Analyzer UF‐5000 in Febrile Urinary Tract Infections

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Antimicrobial susceptibility test results following urine cultures over 3 days indicate that clinical symptoms and overall patient condition should be closely monitored to ascertain the effectiveness of a specific antibiotic course. A Fully Automated Urine Particle Analyzer UF‐5000 (UF‐5000) was used to detect bacteria in the urine.

Age-related changes in the respiratory system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This article summarises the main structural and physiological changes which take place in the lung from young adulthood to senescence. An understanding of these changes helps the clinician to correctly interpret some results of radiology and pulmonary ...

Tissue Resident Memory Cells: Friend or Foe?

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
Tissue‐resident memory T cells (TRM cells) are specialised immune cells in barrier tissues like the lungs, skin and gut, providing rapid host defence and tumour surveillance. Their retention and differentiation are regulated by molecules such as CD69, CD103 and TGF‐β. Dysregulation of TRM cells can lead to chronic activation, driving conditions such as
