Abstract A 7‐year‐old spayed female domestic shorthair cat was presented with respiratory distress due to presumed spontaneous pneumothorax. High‐resolution computed tomography identified subpleural blebs and paraseptal emphysema with peribronchial thickening and bronchiectasis.

Telomere shortening occurs with age in the respiratory epithelium, but telomere dysfunction‐induced foci (TIF) accumulate only late in life. In contrast, proteostasis decline emerges earlier and correlates with functional impairment, suggesting it may be a primary driver of cellular senescence during physiological aging.

Alpha‐1 antitrypsin deficiency is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and the liver. The role of the heterozygous genetic defect in the development of liver cancer in patients with cirrhosis is unclear. Our study found that carrying the Pi*MZ genotype increases the risk of developing liver cancer.
