Maternal Preconception Antibiotic Exposure Disrupts Microbial Succession: A Transgenerational Risk for Offspring Gut Mucosal Immaturity and Colitis Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that maternal antibiotic exposure prior to conception disrupts intergenerational gut microbial succession. By enhancing maternal‐offspring microbial transmission, altering microbial developmental trajectories and increasing selective pressures during community assembly, these disturbances lead to persistent gut mucosal immaturity and

A second-order efficient empirical Bayes confidence interval

open access: yes, 2014
We introduce a new adjusted residual maximum likelihood method (REML) in the context of producing an empirical Bayes (EB) confidence interval for a normal mean, a problem of great interest in different small area applications.

Mapping Genetic Regulation of Transcription to Identify Functional Variants and Genes Associated with Pancreatic Cancer Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integration of a pancreatic eQTL map with a GWAS meta‐analysis identifies 82 putative functional variants and 15 genes. The association between rs11102484 and pancreatic cancer risk is observed in a total of 5699 cases and 8467 controls. The G allele of rs11102484 weakens ZNF263 binding and the silencer‐promoter interaction, thereby increasing ST7L ...

On empirical Bayes estimation of multivariate regression coefficient

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 2006
We investigate the empirical Bayes estimation problem of multivariate regression coefficients under squared error loss function. In particular, we consider the regression model Y=Xβ+ε, where Y is an m-vector of observations, X is a known m×k matrix, β is

Organ‐Specific and Conserved Regulatory Logic Orchestrates Gene Expression in the Embryonic Mesothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated multi‐omic profiling maps the gene‐regulatory landscape of the coelomic mesothelium across heart, lung, and pancreas. A cardiac‐restricted regulatory program is uncovered in which TBX20 activates heart mesothelial (epicardial) cis‐regulatory elements, while MAF emerges as a conserved regulator of mesothelial identity.

Empirical Bayes Estimation in Multiple Linear Regression with Multivariate Skew-Normal Distribution as Prior

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Extension, 2011
We develop a new empirical Bayes analysis in multiple regression models. In the present work we consider multivariate skewnormal as prior for coefficients of the model in a skew-normal population and give empirical Bayes estimation for parameters of ...

Are Safety Corridors Effective in Mitigating Safety? An Ohio-Based Case Study Evaluating Their Effectiveness

open access: yesVehicles
Distracted driving remains a major concern on highways, with it contributing to severe and fatal crashes, particularly on high-speed routes, prompting numerous states to implement targeted initiatives aimed at combating traffic violations that ...

Endothelial GPR68 Is Essential for Arteriogenesis and Represents a Therapeutic Target in a Model of Peripheral Artery Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endothelial GPR68 is identified as a critical regulator of collateral artery growth in peripheral artery disease. Genetic and pharmacological evidence demonstrates that GPR68 integrates hemodynamic cues to drive monocyte recruitment and inflammatory remodeling, thereby promoting collateral arteriogenesis and tissue perfusion after ischemia ...

Flexible Modeling of Epidemics with an Empirical Bayes Framework. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2015
Seasonal influenza epidemics cause consistent, considerable, widespread loss annually in terms of economic burden, morbidity, and mortality. With access to accurate and reliable forecasts of a current or upcoming influenza epidemic's behavior, policy ...
