Neuronal Data Analysis Based on the Empirical Cumulative Entropy
We propose the empirical cumulative entropy as a variability measure suitable to describe the information content in neuronal firing data. Some useful characteristics and an application to a real dataset are also discussed.

Objective Sjögren's disease is an autoimmune disorder that can impact multiple organ systems, including the peripheral nervous system (PNS). PNS manifestations, which can exist concurrently, include mononeuropathies, polyneuropathies, and autonomic nervous system neuropathies.

Gaussian excitations model for glass-former dynamics and thermodynamics
We describe a model for the thermodynamics and dynamics of glass-forming liquids in terms of excitations from an ideal glass state to a Gaussian manifold of configurationally excited states.

An empirical evaluation of entropy-based traffic anomaly detection [PDF]
Entropy-based approaches for anomaly detection are appealing since they provide more fine-grained insights than traditional traffic volume analysis. While previous work has demonstrated the benefits of entropy-based anomaly detection, there has been little effort to comprehensively understand the detection power of using entropy-based analysis of ...

Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Information theoretic description of the e-Mid interbank market: implications for systemic risk [PDF]
We present an empirical analysis of the European electronic interbank market of overnight lending (e-MID) during the years 1999–2009. The main goal of the paper is to explain the observed changes of the cross-sectional dispersion of lending/borrowing ...

Information Content of DQAF Indicators: Empirical Entropy Analysis
The study presents an analysis of the information content of IMF’s Data Quality Assessment Framework (DQAF) indicators. There are significant differences in the quantity of information between DQAF dimensions and sub-dimensions. The most informative DQAF dimension is accessibility, followed by the prerequisites of quality and accuracy and reliability ...

Empirical estimation of entropy functionals with confidence
This paper introduces a class of k-nearest neighbor ($k$-NN) estimators called bipartite plug-in (BPI) estimators for estimating integrals of non-linear functions of a probability density, such as Shannon entropy and R nyi entropy. The density is assumed to be smooth, have bounded support, and be uniformly bounded from below on this set.
