Predictive factors for flea occurrence in red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) from semi-arid Mediterranean environments. [PDF]
Environmental factors influencing flea occurrence in foxes from semi‐arid Mediterranean areas Abstract The role of red fox as host for a wide range of parasites, particularly fleas and other arthropods causing vector‐borne diseases, in combination with its capability to adapt to anthropized environments, makes this wild canid an epidemiologically ...

The mineralocorticoid receptor forms higher order oligomers upon DNA binding. [PDF]
Abstract The prevailing model of steroid hormone nuclear receptor function assumes ligand‐induced homodimer formation followed by binding to DNA hormone response elements (HREs). This model has been challenged by evidence showing that the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) forms tetramers upon ligand and DNA binding, which then drive receptor‐mediated gene ...

Reduction of discrete‐time infectious disease models
In this work, we propose the construction of discrete‐time systems with two time scales in which infectious diseases dynamics are involved. We deal with two general situations. In the first, we consider that individuals affected by the disease move between generalized sites on a faster time scale than the dynamics of the disease itself.

Volcanic Early Warning Using Shannon Entropy: Multiple Cases of Study
Abstract The search for pre‐eruptive observables that can be used for short‐term volcanic forecast remains a scientific challenge. Pre‐eruptive patterns in seismic data are usually identified by analyzing seismic catalogs (e.g., the number and types of recorded seismic events), the evolution of seismic energy, or changes in the tensional state of the ...

A Mathcad‐based educational experience to address the design of nonisothermal plug flow reactors
Abstract Mathcad is a simple‐to‐use and intuitive mathematical software that helps students to minimize the mathematical difficulties involved in solving engineering problems. The design of nonisothermal plug flow reactors (PFR) is a fundamental issue within the field of chemical reaction engineering; however, its teaching–learning process is hindered ...
