Evolution in Response to an Abiotic Stress Shapes Species Coexistence
Ecology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 12, December 2025.This study shows that when two spider mite species evolve separately on tomato plants hyperaccumulating cadmium—a stressful environment—their adaptation leads to reduced competition between them and increased intraspecific competition. As a result, instead of one species excluding the other, both can coexist.
