Analysis of transient overvoltages in EV charging stations due to direct lightning strikes

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This research investigates the impact of lightning on electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs), focusing on the critical role of grounding systems. By simulating various lightning strike scenarios, we examine the influence of factors such as grounding configuration, cable shielding, and lightning current characteristics on the induced overvoltages ...

Fault identification in power cables by using travelling wave-based approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Thefaults in the underground cables cause to generatetransients which propagate along the power cable as travelling waves. The velocity of the generated travelling wave and the time taken by a wave to reach the source point from the fault location ...

High-speed and accurate detection of high-impedance arcing faults in renewable energy microgrids using a master-slave ADALINE algorithm

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal
High-Impedance Arcing Faults (HIAFs) in electrical microgrids are among the abnormal conditions that are difficult to detect by conventional protective devices due to low current and non-linear behavior. In addition, the behavioral similarity of HIAFs to

Performance Evaluation of Surge Arrester Counters in Energy Transmission Lines During Switching: Simulation and Practical Results

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This study evaluates surge arrester performance in mitigating transient overvoltages during 400 kV transmission line switching in Iran, using EMTP‐RV software and statistical switching. Simulation results show that modelling corona effects reduces the surge arrester counter operation considerably, aligning with practical observations.
