A new application of emulsions to measure the gravitational force on antihydrogen

open access: yes, 2012
We propose to build and operate a detector based on the emulsion film technology for the measurement of the gravitational acceleration on antimatter, to be performed by the AEgIS experiment (AD6) at CERN. The goal of AEgIS is to test the weak equivalence

Optimization of Oil-in-Water Emulsion Stability: Experimental Design, Multiple Light Scattering, and Acoustic Attenuation Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To find an optimal formulation of oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions (o = 0.05), the effect of emulsifier nature and concentration, agitation speed, emulsifying time, storage temperature and their mutual interactions on the properties and behavior of these ...

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

Three-dimensional visualisation of tracks in OPERA nuclear emulsion films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The possibility of a three-dimensional visualisation/reconstruction of tracks in nuclear emulsion films using X-ray imaging is described in this paper.

Colloidal Crack Sintering Lithography for Light‐Induced Patterning of Particle Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Colloidal crack sintering lithography (CCSL) is a microfabrication technique that uses light‐induced photothermal heating to trigger sintering and controlled cracking in polymer colloidal assemblies. Local structural changes generate microchannels and patterns, enabling direct writing of diverse topographic motifs.

Crude oil-water separation with the aid of carbon based materials

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
Carbon-based materials are commonly utilized in water filtration and purification due to their affordability and environmental friendliness. This study investigates the effectiveness of four different carbon-based materials: activated carbon (AC ...

A Model for the Elasticity of Compressed Emulsions

open access: yes, 1996
We present a new model to describe the unusual elastic properties of compressed emulsions. The response of a single droplet under compression is investigated numerically for different Wigner-Seitz cells.

Electro‐Active Polymer Actuated Microfiltration Membranes: Design, Performance, and Particle Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The concept of foulant particle manipulation and detachment from active microfiltration membranes via voltage‐driven vibrations is introduced. Actuator components are initially integrated onto the filtration membranes using an airbrush spray printing technique.

Study of macroscopic and microscopic properties of liposomes produced using microfluidic methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
For the last decades, lipid vesicles or liposomes, vesicles formed by a bilayer of amphiphilic lipids, have been used as a toy model for studying the cell membrane and for applications in cosmetics and drug delivery.
