Factor Temporal Prognosis of Tick-Borne Encephalitis Foci Functioning on the South of Russian Far East [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
A method of temporal factor prognosis of TE (tick-borne encephalitis) infection has been developed. The high precision of the prognosis results for a number of geographical regions of Primorsky Krai has been achieved. The method can be applied not only to epidemiological research but also to others.

Choice of spatial discretisation influences the progression of viral infection within multicellular tissues [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
There has been an increasing recognition of the utility of models of the spatial dynamics of viral spread within tissues. Multicellular models, where cells are represented as discrete regions of space coupled to a virus density surface, are a popular approach to capture these dynamics. Conventionally, such models are simulated by discretising the viral

Autopsy findings in cases of fatal COVID‐19 vaccine‐induced myocarditis

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract COVID‐19 vaccines have been linked to myocarditis, which, in some circumstances, can be fatal. This systematic review aims to investigate potential causal links between COVID‐19 vaccines and death from myocarditis using post‐mortem analysis.

XVir: A Transformer-Based Architecture for Identifying Viral Reads from Cancer Samples [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
It is estimated that approximately 15% of cancers worldwide can be linked to viral infections. The viruses that can cause or increase the risk of cancer include human papillomavirus, hepatitis B and C viruses, Epstein-Barr virus, and human immunodeficiency virus, to name a few.

Paleontological Tests: Human-like Intelligence is not a Convergent Feature of Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
We critically examine the evidence for the idea that encephalization quotients increase with time. We find that human-like intelligence is not a convergent feature of evolution. Implications for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence are discussed.

Phase transition from egalitarian to hierarchical societies driven by competition between cognitive and social constraints [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Empirical evidence suggests that social structure may have changed from hierarchical to egalitarian and back along the evolutionary line of humans. We model a society subject to competing cognitive and social navigation constraints. The theory predicts that the degree of hierarchy decreases with encephalization and increases with group size.

NORSE secondary to anti‐GAD65 antibody‐positive encephalitis treated with novel adjunctive rapid titration VNS protocol

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract New Onset Refractory Status Epilepticus (NORSE) is a rare and severe condition characterized by refractory seizures in individuals without a prior history of epilepsy. This case report describes a 37‐year‐old woman diagnosed with anti‐glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (anti‐GAD65) antibody‐positive encephalitis‐related NORSE.
