We study two encodings of the asynchronous pi-calculus with input-guarded choice into its choice-free fragment. One encoding is divergence-free, but refines the atomic commitment of choice into gradual commitment. The other preserves atomicity, but introduces divergence.

Nocturnal Mnemonics: Sleep and Hippocampal Memory Processing
As critical as waking brain function is to learning and memory, an established literature now describes an equally important yet complementary role for sleep in information processing.

Dimensionality Reduction with Variational Encoders Based on Subsystem Purification
Efficient methods for encoding and compression are likely to pave the way toward the problem of efficient trainability on higher-dimensional Hilbert spaces, overcoming issues of barren plateaus.

Robust Charge-based Qubit Encoding [PDF]
We propose a simple encoding of charge-based quantum dot qubits which protects against fluctuating electric fields by charge symmetry. We analyse the reduction of coupling to noise due to nearby charge traps and present single qubit gates.

It is generally believed that working memory (WM) is dysfunctional in depression. However, whether this impaired performance originates from impaired encoding, maintenance or both stages is still unclear.

We consider the problem of encoding classical information into unknown qudit states belonging to any basis, of a maximal set of mutually unbiased bases, by one party and then decoding by another party who has perfect knowledge of the basis.

On Known-Plaintext Attacks to a Compressed Sensing-based Encryption: A Quantitative Analysis [PDF]
Despite the linearity of its encoding, compressed sensing may be used to provide a limited form of data protection when random encoding matrices are used to produce sets of low-dimensional measurements (ciphertexts).

Encoding Race, Encoding Class [PDF]
In Encoding Race, Encoding Class Sareeta Amrute explores the work and private lives of highly skilled Indian IT coders in Berlin to reveal the oft-obscured realities of the embodied, raced, and classed nature of cognitive labor. In addition to conducting fieldwork and interviews in IT offices as well as analyzing political cartoons, advertisements, and

Dual Encoding for Zero-Example Video Retrieval [PDF]
This paper attacks the challenging problem of zero-example video retrieval. In such a retrieval paradigm, an end user searches for unlabeled videos by ad-hoc queries described in natural language text with no visual example provided.
