Biomarkers Predicting Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in End-Stage Kidney Disease: A Systematic Review

open access: yesKidney and Dialysis
Background: Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in chronic kidney disease populations. The risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) is greater than that of progression to end-stage kidney disease.

Global Challenge of Early Detection and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a global health burden with a high economic cost to the health system and is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), not only in the developed country but also in developing country like Indonesia.1,2

Establishing a clinical phenotype for cachexia in end stage kidney disease - study protocol. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Surveys using traditional measures of nutritional status indicate that muscle wasting is common among persons with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Up to 75% of adults undergoing maintenance dialysis show some evidence of muscle wasting. ESKD

Biomimetic Copper‐Doped Nano‐Aluminum Adjuvant Potentiates Therapy in Chemoresistant Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a novel copper‐doped aluminum nano‐adjuvant (CuNA) to overcome cytarabine resistance in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). CuNA effectively sensitizes drug‐resistant AML cells to cytarabine by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction and inhibiting HMGCR/GPX4 to amplify ferroptosis.

Effect of Blood Pressure Control on Long-Term Risk of End-Stage Renal Disease and Death Among Subgroups of Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background Our objective was to explore the effect of intensive blood pressure (BP) control on kidney and death outcomes among subgroups of patients with chronic kidney disease divided by baseline proteinuria, glomerular filtration rate, age, and body ...

Dual‐Peptide Nanoplatform: Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles Functionalized With a Cell‐Penetrating Peptide and Loaded With Rationally Designed Antimicrobial Peptides for Tuberculosis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning–guided engineering of a plectasin‐derived peptide yields DC05, a potent antimycobacterial candidate. Encapsulation into tuftsin‐functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles enhances intracellular delivery, stability, and activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis while maintaining low cytotoxicity and minimal hemolysis. The combined

Small Extracellular Vesicles from Neural Cells: Physiological and Pathological Roles, and Potential in Neurodegenerative Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Neural cell–derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are emerging as pivotal mediators in neurodegenerative diseases, exerting both pathogenic and therapeutic functions. This review synthesizes current evidence on how sEVs from distinct neural cell types regulate neurodegeneration, neuroprotection, biomarker discovery, and targeted drug delivery ...
