Fibroblast growth factor 23 and risks of mortality and end-stage renal disease in patients with chronic kidney disease.

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 2011
CONTEXT A high level of the phosphate-regulating hormone fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) is associated with mortality in patients with end-stage renal disease, but little is known about its relationship with adverse outcomes in the much larger ...

Thyroid disease in end-stage renal disease

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Nephrology and Hypertension, 2019
Hypothyroidism is a highly prevalent endocrine disorder in the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) population, yet many cases may remain latent and undiagnosed.Epidemiologic data show that there is a nearly five-fold higher prevalence of hypothyroidism in advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients vs. those without CKD.

Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety of apixaban in subjects with end‐stage renal disease on hemodialysis

open access: yesJournal of clinical pharmacology, 2016
An open‐label, parallel‐group, single‐dose study was conducted to assess the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety of apixaban in 8 subjects with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis compared with 8 subjects with normal renal function.

Machine learning for dynamically predicting the onset of renal replacement therapy in chronic kidney disease patients using claims data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a slowly progressive disorder that can eventually require renal replacement therapy (RRT) including dialysis or renal transplantation. Early identification of patients who will require RRT (as much as 1 year in advance) improves patient outcomes, for example by allowing higher-quality vascular access for dialysis.

History of Childhood Kidney Disease and Risk of Adult End‐Stage Renal Disease

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2018
Background The long‐term risk associated with childhood kidney disease that had not progressed to chronic kidney disease in childhood is unclear. We aimed to estimate the risk of future end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) among adolescents who had normal ...

HistoPerm: A Permutation-Based View Generation Approach for Improving Histopathologic Feature Representation Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Deep learning has been effective for histology image analysis in digital pathology. However, many current deep learning approaches require large, strongly- or weakly-labeled images and regions of interest, which can be time-consuming and resource-intensive to obtain.

Chronic inflammation in end-stage renal disease and dialysis

open access: yesNephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation, 2018
Under normal conditions, inflammation is a protective and physiological response to various harmful stimuli. However, in several chronic debilitating disorders, such as chronic kidney disease, inflammation becomes maladaptive, uncontrolled and persistent.
