Endemic mycoses in patients with hematologic malignancies

Seminars in Respiratory Infections, 2002
Histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, and coccidioidomycosis are uncommon, but often life-threatening infections in patients who have hematologic malignancies. Disease occurs either as a result of new infection after an environmental exposure or as a result of reactivation of a remote infection.

Newer Developments in Therapy for Endemic Mycoses

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1994
In the 1960s and 1970s, amphotericin B was the only effective therapy for serious systemic endemic fungal infections due to Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis, and Sporothrix schenckii. In the 1980s, ketoconazole was introduced as therapy for endemic mycoses; after this antifungal agent was introduced, some of these infections could be ...

Endemic Mycoses: Blastomycosis, Histoplasmosis, and Sporotrichosis

Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 2006
The endemic mycoses are diverse group of fungi that share several characteristics. They are able to cause disease in healthy hosts, they each occupy a specific ecologic niche in the environment, and they exhibit temperature dimorphism, existing as molds in the environment at temperature of 25 degrees C to 30 degrees C, and as yeasts, or spherules in ...

The endemic mycoses: surgical considerations.

Seminars in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, 1995
Surgical consultation is regularly requested for diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary complications of the endemic mycosis, Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis and Coccidioidomycosis immitis, and the yeast Cryptococcus neoformans. All resemble pulmonary malignancies.

Fungal pneumonias. The endemic mycoses.

Clinics in chest medicine, 1999
Each year, a vast number of individuals are infected with the endemic fungi. An expanding population, along with further land development in endemic areas, will likely continue to place individuals at risk for exposure to these organisms. A high index of suspicion may be required to diagnose histoplasmosis, blastomycosis, or coccidioidomycosis ...

Epidemiology of Endemic Mycoses in Asia

2019
Endemic mycoses are caused by dimorphic fungi with geographical restriction in distribution. In Asia, histoplasmosis, talaromycosis (penicilliosis), and sporotrichosis are prevalent. Sporadic autochthonous cases of blastomycosis have been reported from India.
