Two endo-1,4-beta-zylanases (m. w. 24,000 and 41,000) and six exo-1,4-beta-xylosidases, differing in their molecular weights and isoelectric points, were found in a xylanase preparation from Aspergillus niger, using different methods of fractionation. An electrophoretically homogeneous exo-1,4-beta-xylosidase (m. w. 30,000) purified 120-fold, with pI 4.

The complete gene xylA that encodes endo-1,4-beta-xylanase secreted by Penicillium canescens was cloned and sequenced. The coding region of the gene is separated by eight introns. The protein comprises 302 amino acids of the mature protein and 25 amino acids of the signal peptide. The xylanase of P. canescens belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase family 10.

The crystal structure of endo-1,4-beta-xylanase I from Aspergillus niger has been solved by molecular replacement and was refined to 2.4 A resolution. The final R-factor for all data from 6 to 2.4 A is 17.9%. The A. niger xylanase has a characteristic fold which is unique for family G xylanases (root-mean-square deviation = 1.1 A to Trichoderma reesei ...

Some properties of an endo-1,4-beta-D-xylanase from the ligniperdous fungus Trametes hirsuta.
Folia microbiologica, 1978Some properties of purified endo-1,4-beta-D-xylanase (1,4-beta-D-xylan xylanohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.8) from the ligniperdous fungus Trametes hirsuta were investigated. The enzyme was stable between pH 4.0 and 8.0 were optimum activity at pH 5.0--5.5.

The induction of the synthesis of secreted enzymes endo-1,4-beta-xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8) and beta-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.23) in the original and recombinant Penicillium canescens strains has been studied. In all producer strains, the synthesis of these enzymes was induced by arabinose and its metabolite arabitol.

Separation and some properties of an endo-1,4-beta-D-xylanase from Aspergillus flavipes.
Acta microbiologica Hungarica, 1991A fungal strain isolated from stored wheat straw and identified as Aspergillus flavipes was found to produce an extracellular endo-1,4,beta-D-xylanase when grown in shake-culture of a mineral salt medium containing 0.1% wheat strawxylan as a sole source of carbon for 3 days at 28 degrees C.

Culture liquid from Geotrichum candidum 3C was shown to contain three endoxylanase types: endoxylanase I that binds to cellulose, endoxylanase II that sorbs to insoluble xylan, and endoxylanase III that cannot sorb to dissoluble substrate. The catalytic and substrate-binding domains of endoxylanase II were isolated.
