The role of antibiotics in preventing surgical complications in periodontology and implant dentistry

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Antibiotics are commonly prescribed in periodontal and implant surgeries, either before, during or after surgery, to prevent postoperative infection and reduce early implant failure. However, the potential benefits may be undermined by the risks of resistance and sensitization, thus requiring a strict indication for prescription.

Reducing post‐cesarean sepsis: Current best practice in prevention and treatment

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 171, Issue 2, Page 517-527, November 2025.
Abstract Cesarean section is the most common surgical procedure performed worldwide. It is associated with good perinatal and maternal outcomes when indicated. The rising global cesarean birth rate has coincided with an increase in post‐cesarean sepsis – specifically site infections, which have an incidence of 7% worldwide. Post‐cesarean sepsis remains

A Framework for Evaluation of New Processing Technologies in Human Milk Banking

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 24, Issue 6, November 2025.
ABSTRACT The purpose of this review was to devise a framework for validation studies to test new processing technologies in human milk banking. Human milk banks are an expanding service globally. They provide donor human milk to predominantly preterm and low‐birth‐weight infants, who represent a vulnerable population.

Mesencephalic Astrocyte‐Derived Neurotrophic Factor Binds BAX to Preserve Mitochondrial Homeostasis and Energy Metabolism for Relieving Myocardial Hypertrophy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 40, October 27, 2025.
MANF in cardiomyocytes interacts with BAX to impede BAX mitochondrial translocation and cytochrome c release, further stabilizing mitochondrial structure and energy supply to relieve myocardial apoptosis and hypertrophy, which indicates MANF as a novel cardioprotective factor to have a promising clinical application for myocardial hypertrophy ...

Perventricular Device Closure of Native Congenital Muscular Ventricular Septal Defects in Small Infants   \unicode{x02009} ≤ 5 kg: Single‐Center Study of the Risk Factors for Failure of the Intervention and Non‐Optimal Outcome

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 106, Issue 4, Page 2160-2173, October 1, 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Perventricular device closure of muscular VSD in small infants is a less invasive option than surgical closure under cardiopulmonary bypass and offers better outcomes than palliative pulmonary artery banding. However, the specific risk factors that could affect procedural success and optimal outcomes have not been ...

Navigating Diagnostic Dilemmas in Cardiology: A Rare Case Report of Tuberculosis Presenting as a Cardiac Abscess

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Cardiac tuberculosis (TB) is a rare but important extrapulmonary form of TB that often presents diagnostic challenges due to nonspecific symptoms and its ability to mimic other cardiac conditions. We report the case of a 45‐year‐old woman with end‐stage renal disease secondary to granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) who presented with fever ...

Staphylococcus lugdunensis‐Infected Left Atrial Myxoma Complicated by Mitral Valve Endocarditis and Septic Emboli: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Cardiac myxomas are benign tumors; however, infected myxomas represent a rare clinical presentation. Infected myxomas can cause concomitant infective valve endocarditis, which may lead to complications such as persistent bacteremia, valvular insufficiency/stenosis, and embolic phenomena if not treated promptly.

Hemiplegia From Disseminated Emboli due to Infective Endocarditis Secondary to Acute Rheumatic Fever in a 10‐Year‐Old

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Hemiplegia in children needs early cardiology evaluations, just as it does for neurological assessments. Early recognition, evaluation, management, and prophylaxis by a multidisciplinary team for infective endocarditis in pediatric groups with rheumatic heart disease are crucial to prevent complications like embolic stroke in resource‐limited ...
