Endocarditis at the Millennium [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1999
The members of the Interplanetary Society (Pus Club) have made significant contributions to the understanding of the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis (IE). Although the incidence of IE has essentially remained unchanged, the spectrum and characteristics of patients potentially affected by this disorder are expanding.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in a Ross Procedure Patient With Severe Autograft Regurgitation: A Case Report

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Surgical aortic valve replacement (AVR) is the standard treatment for symptomatic severe neo‐aortic regurgitation in Ross patients. The only previous report of a transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in a Ross patient required valve‐in‐valve rescue. Thus, this is the first uncomplicated TAVI procedure in a Ross patient.

Molecular diagnosis of Coxiella burnetii in culture negative endocarditis and vascular infection in South Korea

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine, 2021
Background Q fever endocarditis is a major cause of culture-negative endocarditis. The role of Coxellia burnetii is underestimated because it is difficult to diagnose. We investigated the significance of C.

Perventricular Device Closure of Native Congenital Muscular Ventricular Septal Defects in Small Infants   $\hspace{0.17em}$ ≤ 5 kg: Single‐Center Study of the Risk Factors for Failure of the Intervention and Non‐Optimal Outcome

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Perventricular device closure of muscular VSD in small infants is a less invasive option than surgical closure under cardiopulmonary bypass and offers better outcomes than palliative pulmonary artery banding. However, the specific risk factors that could affect procedural success and optimal outcomes have not been ...

Serial Changes in Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Gradient and Endocarditis Risk After Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Infective endocarditis (IE) after transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement (TPVR) remains a significant concern. Although there are overall good short‐term and long‐term hemodynamic outcomes, limited data exist comparing postimplantation echocardiographic findings leading to IE.

Achromobacter species endocarditis: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2011
Endocarditis due to Achromobacter species is a rare, yet serious, endovascular infection. Achromobacter species infective endocarditis is associated with underlying immunodeficiencies or prosthetic heart valves and devices. A case of prosthetic pulmonary

Tropheryma whipplei endocarditis presenting as chronic valvular disease: A case report and review of literature

open access: yesHuman Pathology: Case Reports, 2019
Whipple's endocarditis is a rare but treatable infectious disease. We discuss the diagnostic work-up of a case lacking classic endocarditis features. Current challenges in diagnosis and treatment of this under-recognized infection are highlighted.
