Steroid Hormones and Endocrine Disruptors: Recent Advances in Receptor–Mediated Actions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
It has been accepted that receptor-mediated action of steroid hormones depends on both the receptor and the hormonal level. The mechanism of transcription by steroid receptors is mediated by cofactors, which function as co-activators or co-repressors,

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

DNA-Modified Polysulphone Microspheres for Endocrine Disruptors and Heavy Metal Ions Removal

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2005
Porous polysulphone (PSf) microspheres were modified by blending DNA into them and immobilizing DNA onto their surfaces. The DNA-modified microspheres, which were stable in water, were then used to remove endocrine disruptors and heavy metal ions from ...

HYGIENIC ESTIMATION OF THE USE OF PESTICIDES WHICH MAY EXERCITE DISRAPTER OF THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

open access: yesArta Medica, 2020
Objectives. Pesticides that disrupt the endocrine system are the largest group of endocrine disruptors. Aim of the study was to assess the hygienic estimation of the use of pesticides that affect the endocrine system, applied in the agricultural sector ...

Invertebrates facing environmental contamination by endocrine disruptors: Novel evidences and recent insights.

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2020
The crisis of biodiversity we currently experience raises the question of the impact of anthropogenic chemicals on wild life health. Endocrine disruptors are notably incriminated because of their possible effects on development and reproduction ...

Renal Subcapsular xenografing of human fetal external genital tissue - A new model for investigating urethral development. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we introduce our novel renal subcapsular xenograft model for the study of human penile urethral and clitoral development. We grafted fifteen intact fetal penes and clitorides 8-11 weeks fetal age under the renal capsules of gonadectomized ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effects of Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals in the Brain: The Example of Neurodevelopment Alterations upon Exposure In Utero to Synthetic Sex Hormones

open access: yesJournal of Xenobiotics
Endocrine disruptors contaminate indoor and outdoor air, water, and food. Besides modifications of the androgen/estrogen balance, endocrine disruptors can alter thyroid function, metabolic balance, immune defenses, and brain development during fetal life,
