Establishment and optimization of the two‐step induction system for generating primordial germ cell‐like cells from chicken embryonic stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study optimizes a two‐step induction system to generate PGCLCs from chicken ESCs. The induced cells express germline markers and migrate to gonads in ovo, offering a novel approach for avian genetic resource conservation. Primordial germ cells (PGCs) are the progenitor cells of sperm and eggs.

Peripheral clock disruption and metabolic disease: moving beyond the anatomy to a functional approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
Sleep and circadian disruption are associated with an increased risk of metabolic disease, including obesity and diabetes. Mounting evidence indicates that misaligned and/or non-functional clock proteins in peripheral tissues critically contribute to the

Advances in endocrinology [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 1998
Molecular genetics will continue to help us to make precise diagnoses. At present, the expertise to achieve this for a specific disease is often exclusive to one unit with a research interest. It will be important to establish a coordinated approach at a supraregional level to provide molecular diagnosis for rare disorders as a fast reliable clinical ...

CTLA-4 and PD-1 ligand gene expression in epithelial thyroid cancers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The dysregulation of PD-1 ligands (PD-L1 and PD-L2) and CTLA-4 ligands (CD80 and CD86) represents a tumor strategy to escape the immune surveillance. Here, the expression of PD-L1, PD-L2, CD80 and CD86 was evaluated at mRNA level in 94 patients affected ...

Morbid Obesity Due to Prolactinoma and Significant Weight Loss After Dopamine Agonist Treatment

open access: yesAACE Clinical Case Reports, 2021
Objective: Morbid obesity may be related to a prolactinoma, although uncommon, and can lead to adverse effects like insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. Recent research suggests that hyperprolactinemia causes an abnormal lipid profile, weight gain,

Cardiovascular features of possible autonomous cortisol secretion in patients with adrenal incidentalomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Low-grade incomplete post-dexamethasone cortisol suppression in patients with adrenal incidentalomas – recently defined as possible autonomous cortisol secretion (pACS) – has been associated with increased cardiovascular events and mortality.

Adipokines and Associations with Incident Osteoporotic Fracture in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Purpose We assessed whether circulating adipokines are associated with incident fractures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods Three adipokines (adiponectin, leptin, fibroblast growth factor [FGF]‐21) were measured using banked enrollment serum from participants in a longitudinal RA cohort.
