Comprehensive Review of Current Endodontic Sealers

open access: yesDental Materials Journal, 2020
Endodontic sealers for non-surgical root canal treatment (NSRCT) span many compositions and attributes. This comprehensive review discusses current types of endodontic sealers by their setting reaction type, composition, and properties: zinc oxide-eugenol, salicylate, fatty acid, glass ionomer, silicone, epoxy resin, tricalcium silicate, and ...

Mutagenicity of Endodontic Sealers

Biomaterials, 1985
Four endodontic sealer materials and some of their chemical constituents were subjected to Ames' test for mutagenicity with the Salmonella/microsome assay. Extracts of two zinc oxide-eugenol based materials and of one gutta-percha-zinc oxide-chloroform based sealer were negative in the test.

?Endodontic Sealers?: A Review

IAR Journal of Medical Sciences, 2021
The main aim of root canal therapy is the removal of microbial contaminants in conjunction with the total closure of the root canal system. Root canal sealers along with solid core material plays a major role in achieving the three dimensional sealing of the root canal system.

In Vitro Antibacterial Activity of Endodontic Sealers

Journal of Dentistry, 2006
To evaluate the antibacterial activity of four endodontic sealers: one epoxy resin sealer (AH Plus), two zinc oxide eugenol (ZOE)-based sealers (Endomèthasone, Pulp Canal Sealer), and one sealer containing both ZOE and orthophenilphenol (Vcanalare).A direct contact test (DCT) was performed.

Dimensional changes of endodontic sealers

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1993
The purpose of this study was a long-term comparison of the dimensional changes of endodontic sealers of diverse properties. The sealers were injected as thin layers on the internal walls of glass pipettes 1 mm in diameter. The pipettes were filled with deionized water, and the water meniscus levels were recorded periodically up to 180 days.

The properties of endodontic sealer cements

Journal of Endodontics, 1988
Two new Ca(OH) 2 -based sealer cements, CRCS and Sealapex, were compared with Procosol cement for compressive strength, setting time, solubility, dimensional stability, and radiopacity. CRCS set within 3 days in both a dry and a humid environment and Procosol required more than 2 wk to set in 100% rH.

The rheologic properties of endodontic sealers

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1978
The rheologic properties of seven endodontic sealers were investigated with a rotational viscometer. The effects of time and rate of shear on the measured viscosities were determined. Results indicated that one material exhibited Newtonian behavior, whereas the others were characterized by pseudoplasticity.

Ultrasonic endodontic sealer placement

Journal of Endodontics, 1988
The use of ultrasonic energy for applying sealer tothe root canal system was investigated. A method of ultrasonic sealer placement was described. This in vitro study using human mandibular molars compared hand instruments with ultrasonics for sealer application.

The effect of endodontic sealers on bone

Journal of Endodontics, 1980
Zinc oxide and eugenol (ZOE) and ZOE with 6% paraformaldehyde were implanted in vivo in the mandibles of dogs. ZOE produced a zone of changes in the bone which appeared to increase in size through the four-week term of the study. ZOE with paraformaldehyde produced a zone which was generally smaller than that of the ZOE specimens, with possible fixation
