Annals of ophthalmology, 1988The incidence of systemic mycotic infections, though formerly rare, has increased dramatically over the past two decades. Candida albicans has been recognized as the most common pathogen in endogenous fungal endophthalmitis. Accurate antemortem diagnosis of disseminated candidiasis is made, however, only in a few cases.

Survey of Ophthalmology, 1977A case of Escherichia coli septicemia with associated metastatic en dophthalmitis and endocarditis is presented. The ocular signs and symptoms were the initial manifestations of sepsis. Irreversible damage to the eye occurred in less than 24 hours.

Endogenous Candida Endophthalmitis in Infants
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1980Two infants recovered from endogenous Candida endophthalmitis. Case 1, to the best of my knowledge, is the first reported full term neonate with this entity. Free-floating vitreous opacitis ("ballon vitréen") were found in one infant and the second infant's lesions resolved in a more conventional manner.
