Endolichenic fungi in lichens of Champawat district, Uttarakhand, northern India

Mycological Progress, 2017
Eleven lichen species belonging to five families (two fruticose and nine foliose) growing on the bark of Quercus leucotrichophora trees from four forests of Champawat district, Uttarakhand state, northern India were studied for their endolichenic fungal assemblage.

Inducing antioxidant and antimicrobial activities in endophytic and endolichenic fungi by the use of light spectra treatments

Archives of Microbiology, 2023
The influence of light exposure on antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of nine fungal isolates [Pseudopestalotiopsis theae (EF13), Fusarium solani (EF5), Xylaria venustula (PH22), Fusarium proliferatum (CCH), Colletotrichum boninese (PL9), Colletotrichum boninese (PL1), Colletotrichum boninese (OL2), Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (OL3) and ...

Antiproliferative and antibiofilm potentials of endolichenic fungi associated with the lichenNephroma laevigatum

Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2019
The objective of this study was to explore the diversity of endolichenic fungi from Nephroma laevigatum and to investigate their antiproliferative and antibiofilm potential.Forty-six isolates were obtained and identified by DNA barcoding. They belonged to genera Nemania, Daldinia, Peziza and Coniochaeta.

Diversity of endolichenic fungi within lichen genus Parmotrema from India

Turkish Journal of Botany, 2023
: The lichens serve as an ecological niche for a group of unexplored fungal species residing inside their thallus without causing any noticeable symptoms and such fungi are termed as endolichenic fungi. The objective of the current study is to check the endolichenic fungal diversity within lichen genus Parmotrema. The study resulted in a total of 450

Endolichenic Fungi: A Promising Source for Novel Bioactive Compounds

2019
A large proportion of the drugs available in market are either of plant or microbial origin. Microbes produce various secondary metabolites and these metabolites turned out to be biologically active. Endophytic fungi are considered to be more creative in case of producing novel secondary metabolites. Lichens also harbor endophytes i.e.

Detection of Endolichenic Fungi Producing Antifungal Compound

Korean Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2012
To isolate a novel antifungal compound, we obtained 100 kinds of endolichenic fungi from Korean Lichen & Allied Bioresources Center and examined their antifungal capability. Three fungi Usnea rigidula (2326), Parmotrema pseudotinctorum (2202) and Myelochroa sp.

Bacterial epibionts and endolichenic actinobacteria and fungi in the Lower Devonian lichen Chlorolichenomycites salopensis

Fungal Biology, 2013
The charcoalified fragment of the dorsiventrally organized, internally stratified presumed green algal lichen Chlorolichenomycites salopensis from the Lower Devonian Lochkovian strata in the Welsh Borderland carries bacterial colonies on the upper surface, i.e.

Community Analysis Reveals Close Affinities Between Endophytic and Endolichenic Fungi in Mosses and Lichens

Microbial Ecology, 2010
Endolichenic fungi live in close association with algal photobionts inside asymptomatic lichen thalli and resemble fungal endophytes of plants in terms of taxonomy, diversity, transmission mode, and evolutionary history. This similarity has led to uncertainty regarding the distinctiveness of endolichenic fungi compared with endophytes.

Light mediation to induce production of valuable compounds in endophytic and endolichenic fungi

2022
Light is an important influence on fungal development but they are not well studied in general. This thesis examined the influence of light regulation on growth, and production of enzyme and bioactive compounds of fungi. In this study, the irradiation of specific light spectra (blue, red, yellow and green lights) greatly enhanced the enzyme productions,

Endolichenic fungi extracts: A promising alternative for ultraviolet protection in cosmetics

2023
Lichen-derived extracts are a potential source for skin health products due to their antioxidant activity that can prevent damage caused by ultraviolet (UV) rays. The slow natural growth and limited reproduction of lichens limit their use. However, endolichenic fungi (ELF) from lichen thalli can serve as a more efficient, rapid, and standardized ...
