Three-Dimensional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Reveals the Relationship Between the Control of Vertigo and Decreases in Endolymphatic Hydrops After Endolymphatic Sac Drainage With Steroids for Meniere's Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2019
Meniere's disease is a common disease, that presents with recurrent vertigo and cochlear symptoms. The pathology of Meniere's disease was first reported to involve endolymphatic hydrops in 1938. The endolymphatic sac is thought to have a role to keep the

Endolymphatic sac surgery: past and present controversies [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
The history of endolymphatic sac surgery is presented. The original concept of passive drainage is challenged as the physiology of the endolymphatic sac is gradually elucidated.

Imaging Analysis of Patients With Meniere's Disease Treated With Endolymphatic Sac-Mastoid Shunt Surgery [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2022
Objective: Endolymphatic sac surgery is effective in treating intractable Meniere's disease (MD), but the underlying mechanism is still unknown. Our study investigated the mechanism by which endolymphatic sac-mastoid shunt (EMS) surgery is effective in ...

Endolymphatic Sac Surgery for Ménière's Disease – Current Opinion and Literature Review

open access: yesInternational Archives of Otorhinolaryngology, 2017
Introduction The endolymphatic sac is thought to maintain the hydrostatic pressure and endolymph homeostasis for the inner ear, and its dysfunction may contribute to the pathophysiology of Ménière's disease.

Endolymphatic Sac Tumor

open access: goldEar, Nose & Throat Journal, 2022
Masses occupying the retrolabyrinthine space are uncommon and most often represent paragangliomas, choroid plexus papilloma, endolymphatic sac tumors (ELSTs) or distant metastasis. ELSTs are rare, locally invasive tumors of the inner ear, with less than 300 cases reported in the literature.

Triple semicircular canal occlusion with endolymphatic sac decompression for intractable Meniere’s disease [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
BackgroundMeniere’s disease (MD) is characterized by idiopathic endolymphatic hydrops (ELH). Frequent vertigo attacks is the most disabling symptom of MD.ObjectiveThis study evaluated the efficacy of triple semicircular canal occlusion combined with ...

Large endolymphatic sac anomaly [PDF]

open access: bronzePediatric Radiology, 2010
A 31-month-old girl presented with sensorineural hearing loss. Brain MRI demonstrated enlargement of the endolymphatic sacs bilaterally on T2-W images (Fig. 1) and reformatted image on the left side (Fig. 2, white arrow). The remaining inner ear structures were unremarkable. The endolymphatic sac sits at the posterior aspect of the petrous bone.

Is CT or MRI the optimal imaging investigation for the diagnosis of large vestibular aqueduct syndrome and large endolymphatic sac anomaly? [PDF]

open access: hybridEuropean Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2019
Background and purposeWe explored whether there was a difference between measurements obtained with CT and MRI for the diagnosis of large vestibular aqueduct syndrome or large endolymphatic sac anomaly, and whether this influenced diagnosis on the basis ...
