Disinfection of gastrointestinal endoscopes
1997Any patient entering an endoscopy unit should have the guarantee that effective disinfection or decontamination steps have been taken, to prevent microbiological transmission during the endoscopic procedure1”5. The number of endoscopy procedures, in particular therapeutic interventions, is still steadily increasing; concern exists about possible ...

Endoscopic Hemoclip Treatment for Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Endoscopy, 1993We conducted an uncontrolled study to evaluate an improved metallic clip (Olympus hemoclip) for the endoscopic treatment of nonvariceal gastrointestinal bleeding. A total of 88 patients (mean age 63 +/- 14, 60 males) with bleeding from a wide range of sources were treated. Seventy-eight patients had active bleeding (spurting in 50, oozing in 28) and 10

Gastrointestinal Endoscope Reprocessing
2018Flexible endoscopes play an integral role in the evaluation and treatment of various gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. An estimated 20 million endoscopic GI procedures are performed annually [1]. With routine exposure to secretions, sputum, feces, and blood, it is not surprising that endoscopes are subject to an extraordinary degree of microbial ...

Diagnostic endoscopic ultrasonography in the gastrointestinal tract
Orvosi Hetilap, 2012Endoscopic ultrasonography is a relatively new technology that combines the use of flexible fiberoptic endoscopes with high-resolution ultrasound technology. It proved to be highly accurate and useful in the staging of gastrointestinal malignancies, as well as in characterizing the nature of subepithelial lesions and disorders of the pancreaticobiliary

Endoscopic Approach to the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Bleeding
Techniques in Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2004Gastrointestinal endoscopy is the primary diagnostic and therapeutic modality in the management of gastrointestinal bleeding. Endoscopic Approaches to Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding
The American Surgeon™, 2006Treatment for most patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding has shifted from the operating room to the endoscopy suite. Endoscopic treatment has resulted in substantial benefit for patients with bleeding from peptic ulcer. Ulcers associated with high-risk stigmata of recent hemorrhage (SRH) not treated endoscopically have 40 per cent to 100 per ...

Endoscopic Diagnosis of Upper Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage
Postgraduate Medicine, 1965Records of 186 patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding seen at Massachusetts General Hospital over a two year period were studied to determine the accuracy of diagnostic methods employed and to evaluate results of gastrointestinal endoscopy. Of 177 endoscopic diagnoses, 152 were correct, 11 falsely negative, and 14 incorrect.

Endoscopic ultrasonography of the upper gastrointestinal tract
Baillière's Clinical Gastroenterology, 1991EUS unites two established imaging techniques and extends the range of observation into and beyond the wall of the GI tract. The close proximity of the sonographic probe to the region of interest combined with high ultrasonic frequencies of between 7.5 and 12 MHz yields images of high resolution.
