Endoscopic calcaneoplasty offers access to the retrocalcaneal space, thereby making it possible to remove inflamed retrocalcaneal bursa as well as the posterosuperior part of the calcaneus in applicable cases of painful hindfoot. In this study, endoscopic calcaneoplasty was performed in 21 procedures in 20 patients.

Areas of application for endosonography can be roughly divided into three categories: standard diagnostic examination; operative diagnostic examination (fine-needle aspiration); and operative therapeutic procedures. Nevertheless, endoscopic ultrasonography remains a single technique, in which the physician can not only raise a suspicion of a particular

Endoscopic resection (ER) has become the most important endoscopic treatment method of early cancers of the upper GI tract. ER serves as a therapeutic but also as a diagnostic tool by providing a specimen for histologic assessment. In expert hands ER is easy to performe and has a very low complication rate.

EUS has many advantages over x-ray and other endoscopic procedures for the detection of lesions located in the wall of the GI tract. In the oesophagus, invasion of cancer and spread to lymph nodes can be visualized by EUS before surgery. In the stomach, the invasion depth of cancer and the therapeutic effect of laser irradiation to early cancer can be ...

Endoscopic methods to recognise and treat early gastrointestinal malignancies have increased in recent years. This has resulted in more lesions being diagnosed at an early stage and a shift away from invasive surgery towards endoscopic resection. However, it is necessary for the endoscopist to understand the key principles behind advanced endoscopic ...
