Sedation for Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Procedures in the Elderly: Getting Safer but Still Not Nearly Safe Enough [PDF]
Previously published UK reports showed that excessively large doses of benzodiazepines and opiates were being commonly used to sedate elderly patients for gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. This unsafe practice has lead to avoidable morbidity and mortality.

Objectives The concern that nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may precipitate flares of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has limited their use in managing musculoskeletal symptoms in this population, but safety data are mixed. Methods This retrospective cohort study included patients with IBD ≥ 18 years of age from Optum's de‐identified ...

Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors for Probing Free Radical Biology
Free radicals play key roles in cellular signaling and disease but remain difficult to measure in living systems. Nanodiamonds (NDs) with nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers enable quantum sensing of local magnetic noise via T₁ relaxometry, providing nondestructive radical detection in living cells.

Light‐Actuated Fiber‐Climbing Inchworm Robot Toward Endoluminal Navigation
A kirigami‐inspired soft inchworm robot harnesses optical energy from a customized side‐emitting optical fiber, guaranteeing its propulsion along the fiber body. The wavelength‐selective responsiveness of dye‐functionalized liquid crystal elastomers and the application of temporal illumination patterns enable sequential control of robot components. The

EUS-FNA Diagnosis with Core Biopsy of Pancreatic Metastases from Primary Breast Cancer
Background. The pancreas as a site of metastasis of other primary tumors is a rare event. Pancreatic metastases may occur years after the start of treatment of a neoplasm of another organ or may be the initial manifestation of an unidentified primary ...

Enhanced Endoscopic Internal Drainage of Gastric Abscess Through Additively Manufactured Stents
Postoperative gastric leaks are often treated with off‐label biliary double‐pigtail stents, yet conventional extruded designs are not optimized for leak anatomy, can migrate, and may limit abscess evacuation. PETALS is introduced to optimize transmural drainage geometry and enable patient‐specific 3D‐printable stents.
