Abstract Somatostatin is a naturally occurring polypeptide hormone that exerts its effect on the gastrointestinal tract by reducing exocrine and endocrine secretion, resulting in decreased motility, gastric emptying, splanchnic blood flow, fat absorption, lymphatic flow, and gallbladder contraction.

The challenge of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) remains the puncture of the portal vein. Establishing an optimal shunt position in the left branch of the portal vein would be a better option for reducing the risk of postoperative hepatic encephalopathy and stent dysfunction.

Malignancies and immunoglobulin G4‐related disease
Immunoglobulin G4‐related disease (IgG4‐RD) is associated with increased cancer risk. Malignancies affect both IgG4‐RD involved organs, such as the lung, pancreas, bile duct, and prostate, and noninvolved organs, such as the gastrointestinal duct. B‐cell neoplasms constitute a proportion of the malignancies linked to this disease.
