Failures in the osseointegration of endosseous implants
A total of 68 patients, 26 men and 42 women, aged 21 to 86 years, were treated with 204 endosseous implants (TPS, ITI, Bonefit, or Biolox) from 1985 to 1990. They were examined at their latest recall visit approximately 22.5 months after surgery, the range varying greatly between the implant systems used (from 4 to 60 months).

Microdamage adjacent to endosseous implants
Bone, 1999Intense remodeling occurs in lamellar bone adjacent to osseointegrated endosseous implants. The purpose of this study was to compare microdamage accumulation subsequent to ex vivo fatigue loading of bone that surrounds an endosseous implant, (a) immediately after placement (nonadapted bone) and (b) following a 12 week healing period after placement ...

Biological fixation of endosseous implants
Micron, 2005Primary implant stability is ensured by a mechanical fixation of implants. However, during implant healing a biological anchorage is necessary to achieve final osseointegration. Aim of this study was to investigate the histological aspects of biological fixation around titanium screws. Forty-eight titanium screws with different surfaces (smooth, plasma

Survival of the endodontic endosseous implant
Journal of Endodontics, 1993The endodontic endosseous implant (EEI) enjoyed wide use in the United States after it was introduced in the 1960's. For various reasons including incorrect case selection, improper use of the materials, and poor preparation for the implant a high number of failures resulted.

Some advances in endosseous implants
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 1981SummaryA major advance in endosseous implantology hinges on the coating of titanium implants by porous biodegradable, bioreactive tricalcium phosphate ceramic. When implanted into alveolar bone by a careful technique, the ceramic is resorbed to be replaced by bone. As a result, the endosseous implant becomes ankylosed to the bone.

Endosseous implants in an irradiated tissue bed
Implant Dentistry, 1996Endosseous implants have been placed at the Mayo Clinic Department of Dental Specialties for over 12 years. On the basis of the clinical success of the osseointegration program, the use of implants has been expanded to include placement into tissue beds that have been exposed to therapeutic radiation.

Generic terminology for endosseous implant prosthodontics
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1992Implant dentistry has become an integral treatment modality in the restoration of the complete and partially edentulous patient. Most practitioners have been educated by manufacturer-sponsored courses oriented to the use of a specific implant system.
