Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Longitudinal Changes to Tight Junction Expression and Endothelial Cell Integrity in a Mouse Model of Sterile Corneal Inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
PURPOSE: We previously reported that applying toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands to an injured cornea induces corneal edema at 24 hours, which subsides by 1 week.

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Millennial Generation’s Choice of Contact Lens as the Preference Over Spectacles: A Study of Corneal Endothelial Cell Density

open access: yesMedical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth
Introduction: The cornea of the eye is the most vulnerable organ to external insult. Contact lens is no exception. Changes in corneal epithelium, stroma, and loss of hexagonal shape in the endothelium have been taught in contact lens classes.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

CORNEAL ENDOTHELIOPATHY IN PSEUDOEXFOLIATION SYNDROME

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Medical Sciences, 2018
Background: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is a common disorder with a wide range of ophthalmic presentation and risks. Corneal endotheliopathy is one of these presentations. Objective: To evaluate corneal endothelial cell morphology, density and function in
