RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Clear corneal grafts with subcritical endothelial cell count after 1 year of penetrating keratoplasty

open access: yesTNOA Journal of Ophthalmic Science and Research, 2018
Endothelial cell loss after penetrating keratoplasty leads to graft failure. The critical limit of the endothelial cell count for corneal decompensation is thought to be 700 cells/mm2.

Uterine spiral artery remodeling involves endothelial apoptosis induced by extravillous trophoblasts through Fas/FasL interactions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Objective— Invasion of uterine spiral arteries by extravillous trophoblasts in the first trimester of pregnancy results in loss of endothelial and musculoelastic layers.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Comparación del endotelio corneal antes y después de la extracción extracapsular del cristalino: Blumenthal vs facoemulsificación Comparison of the corneal endothelium before and after extracapsular extraction of the Blumenthal crystalline: vs phacoemulsification

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Oftalmología, 2010
OBJETIVO: Determinar el estado del endotelio corneal mediante la microscopia óptica convencional, antes y después de la extracción extracapsular del cristalino o facoemulsificación.

A novel method to analyze leukocyte rolling behavior in vivo

open access: yesBiological Procedures Online, 2004
Leukocyte endothelial cell interaction is a fundamentally important process in many disease states. Current methods to analyze such interactions include the parallel-plate flow chamber and intravital microscopy.

Age and diabetes related changes of the retinal capillaries: an ultrastructural and immunohistochemical study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Normal human aging and diabetes are associated with a gradual decrease of cerebral flow in the brain with changes in vascular architecture. Thickening of the capillary basement membrane and microvascular fibrosis are evident in the central nervous system

Specular Microscopy of Corneal Endothelial Cells in Cynomolgus Monkeys.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1994
The corneal endothelia of 15 male and 16 female cynomolgus monkeys (estimated age: 2 years and more) were examined with a contact-type specular microscope under general anesthesia. The specular microscopy showed uniform-sized, hexagonal endothelia arranged regularly on the innermost layer of the cornea.

Reelin expression in brain endothelial cells: an electron microscopy study [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2015
Reelin expression and function have been extensively studied in the brain, although its expression has been also reported in other tissues including blood. This raises the possibility that reelin might be able to cross the blood-brain barrier, which could be functionally relevant. Up-to-date no studies have been conducted to assess if reelin is present

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...
