Numerical simulation of endovascular treatment options for cerebral aneurysms [PDF]

open access: yes
Predicting the long-term success of endovascular interventions in the clinical management of cerebral aneurysms requires detailed insight into the patient-specific physiological conditions. In this work, we not only propose numerical representations of endovascular medical devices such as coils, flow diverters or Woven EndoBridge but also outline ...

Influence of the arterial elastic component on the response to balloon angioplasty in femoral arteries of a healthy porcine model

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the role of elastin in vascular response 28 days after balloon angioplasty using uncoated and paclitaxel‐coated balloons in a healthy porcine model. The results show higher elastin content in external femoral arteries, which is inversely correlated with vascular injury, inflammation, smooth muscle cell loss, proteoglycan and fibrin

Model reduction methodology for computational simulations of endovascular repair [PDF]

open access: yesComputer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering, London : Informa Healthcare, 2018, 21 (2), pp.139-148, 2019
Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a current alternative treatment for thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, but is still sometimes compromised by possible complications such as device migration or endoleaks. In order to assist clinicians in preventing these complications, finite element analysis (FEA) is a promising tool.

Endovascular Treatment of Malfunctioning Dialysis Fistulas: A Multicenter Retrospective Analysis Comparing Transradial and Conventional Transvenous Access

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Venous outflow is the favored access for endovascular management of dialysis fistulas. However, transradial access (TRA) offers advantages in specific clinical scenarios. The study aims to compare the efficacy, feasibility, and safety of TRA and transvenous access (TVA) in the endovascular management of malfunctioning dialysis ...

Endovascular Treatment of B-AVM [PDF]

open access: yesInterventional Neuroradiology, 2003
Embolisation can be carried out as a unique treatment, the intended goal being partial and targeted, palliative, curative or in combination with surgery or stereotactic radiosurgery. It may be performed in elective or in emergent fashion depending on the indication and circumstances.

Fractional Flow Reserve Directed Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Optimization Using High‐Definition Intravascular Ultrasound in Non‐ST‐Segment Elevation Acute Coronary Syndrome Versus Chronic Coronary Syndrome

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)‐guided optimization of suboptimal fractional flow reserve (FFR) following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) results in a significant increase in both post‐PCI FFR and minimal lumen and stent areas (MLA and MSA, respectively).

Endovascular Stroke Treatment of Nonagenarians [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Neuroradiology, 2016
Although endovascular treatment has become a standard therapy in patients with acute stroke, the benefit for very old patients remains uncertain. The purpose of this study was the evaluation of procedural and outcome data of patients ≥90 years undergoing endovascular stroke treatment. We retrospectively analyzed prospectively collected data of patients ≥

Coronary Plaque Characteristics Assessed by Optical Coherence Tomography and Plasma Lipoprotein(a) Levels in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, but its influence on plaque characteristics at optical coherence tomography (OCT) evaluation is not fully understood. Aims This study seeks to explore the impact of Lp(a) levels on plaque morphology as assessed by OCT in a very high‐risk subset of patients ...

Acute management of poor condition subarachnoid hemorrhage patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Poor condition subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) patients present a high mortality and morbidity. In this study, we reviewed the acute interventional (surgical and endovascular) management of 109 SAH-poor condition patients, who were treated as early as ...

Open conversion after aortic endograft infection. Caused by colistin-resistant, carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A 62-year-old man presented with fever, abdominal pain, and malaise 13 months after emergency endovascular aortic repair. Computed tomographic angiograms showed a periprosthetic fluid and gas collection, so infection was diagnosed. Open conversion was
