Glycemic Index and Endurance Performance
International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism, 2010The aim of this review is to provide an up-to-date summary of the evidence surrounding glycemic index (GI) and endurance performance. Athletes are commonly instructed to consume low-GI (LGI) carbohydrate (CHO) before exercise, but this recommendation appears to be based on the results of only a few studies, whereas others have found that the GI of CHO ...

Potential for strength and endurance training to amplify endurance performance
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1988The impact of adding heavy-resistance training to increase leg-muscle strength was studied in eight cycling- and running-trained subjects who were already at a steady-state level of performance. Strength training was performed 3 days/wk for 10 wk, whereas endurance training remained constant during this phase.

Caffeine and Endurance Performance
Sports Medicine, 1994Caffeine is consumed in many beverages and foods throughout the world. It is the most commonly used drug in North America and, probably, in many other countries. The short term consumption of caffeine may result in increased urination, gastrointestinal distress, tremors, decreased sleep, and anxiety symptoms in certain individuals.

Heredity and Endurance Performance
Sports Medicine, 1984Performance in endurance sports is affected by a variety of factors, including exercise-training habits, nutrition and other lifestyle components. Endurance performance can also be seen as a multifactorial phenotype influenced by genetic and non-genetic factors.

Fatigue Transfer in Endurance Performance
Research Quarterly. American Alliance for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1976Abstract Data on 32 male college students were used to test the hypothesis that fatigue products produced by the performance of heavy physical work involving the largest and most powerful muscle groups of the body (legs) would transfer to and impair another immediately following motor performance which utilized musculature that was not active during ...

Endurance Performance and Nocturnal HRV Indices
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2009The effects of endurance training on endurance performance characteristics and cardiac autonomic modulation during night sleep were investigated. Twenty-four sedentary subjects trained over four weeks two hours per week at an average running intensity of 76+/-4% of their heart rate reserve.

Fat supplementation, health, and endurance performance
Nutrition, 2004Pre-exercise fat ingestion (i.e., long chain triacylglycerol ingestion 1 to 4 h before exercise), medium-chain triacylglycerols, fish oil, and conjugated linoleic acid have been suggested to alter metabolism to achieve weight loss, alter lipid profiles, or improve performance.

Endurance Performance: Genes or Gene Combinations?
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2008We assessed the possible association between variants of the genes encoding for the angiotensin-converting enzyme ( ACE) and alpha-actinin-3 ( ACTN3) (both individually and combined) and several endurance phenotypic traits, e.g., peak power output (PPO), ventilatory (VT) and respiratory compensation threshold (RCT), among others, in professional road ...

Optimization of endurance performance
Progress in Aerospace Sciences, 1992Abstract The endurance performance of aircraft is considered and various methods for its optimization are described. These methods concern classical techniques as well as new procedures which are the result of recent research. According to classical theory, endurance cruise is considered as a quasi steady-state flight where mass changes due to fuel ...
