The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effects of Ischemic Preconditioning on Sport-Specific Performance in Highly Trained Taekwondo Athletes

open access: yesSports
Ischemic preconditioning (IPC), which involves episodes of blood flow restriction followed by reperfusion, has uncertain effects on athletes. Additionally, employing sports-specific tests that are highly familiar to athletes can enhance methodological ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Multidisciplinary Analysis of Differences Between Finisher and Non-finisher Ultra-Endurance Mountain Athletes

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Ultra-endurance races are one of the most physically and psychologically demanding sports, depending performance on several elements. The aims of the present study were (i) to analyze differences in selected psychophysiological parameters between ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

The Role of Endurance in Cricket Player Performance

open access: yesGladi: Jurnal Ilmu Keolahragaan
Cricket is an intermittent sport that requires the ability to maintain physical and technical performance over long match durations. This study aims to measure and analyze the role of endurance on playing performance in 18 athletes from the Jakarta Men's
