SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF ENERGETIC NEUTRAL ATOM STORM ON OCTOBER 3, 2001 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2007
We have studied energetic neutral atom (ENA) disturbances during the magnetic storm main phase that occurred on October 3,2001, using the ENA data from the HENA instrument onboard the IMAGE spacecraft. We find that the main phase is characterized by five

Compact acceleration of energetic neutral atoms using high intensity laser-solid interaction [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Recent advances in high-intensity laser-produced plasmas have demonstrated their potential as compact charge particle accelerators. Unlike conventional accelerators, transient quasi-static charge separation acceleration fields in laser produced plasmas ...

Energetic Neutral Atoms from the Heliosheath as an Additional Population of Neutral Hydrogen in the Inner Heliosphere [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract Interstellar neutral hydrogen (ISN H) gas penetrates freely the heliopause. Inside the inner heliosheath, the charge-exchange interaction of this gas with the shocked solar wind and pickup ions creates energetic neutral atoms (ENAs). ISN H is strongly depleted inside the termination shock but a fraction reaches the Earth’s orbit.

Globally Distributed Energetic Neutral Atom Maps for the “Croissant” Heliosphere [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2018
Abstract A recent study by Opher et al. suggested the heliosphere has a “croissant” shape, where the heliosheath plasma is confined by the toroidal solar magnetic field. The “croissant” heliosphere is in contrast to the classically accepted view of a comet-like tail.

First energetic neutral atom images from Polar [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1997
Energetic neutral atoms are created when energetic magnetospheric ions undergo charge exchange with cold neutral atoms in the Earth's tenuous extended atmosphere (the geocorona). Since they are unaffected by the Earth's magnetic field, these energetic neutrals travel away in straight line trajectories from the points of charge exchange.

Persistent Behavior in Energetic Neutral Atom Time Series from IBEX [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We investigate the long-term persistence of the time series of energetic neutral atom (ENA) fluxes recorded by the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX). ENAs provide global information about the outer heliosphere and its interactions with the very local

Relating Energetic Ion Spectra to Energetic Neutral Atoms

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Abstract Heliospheric energetic neutral atoms (ENAs) originate from energetic ions that are neutralized by charge exchange with neutral atoms in the heliosheath and very local interstellar medium (VLISM). Since neutral atoms are unaffected by electromagnetic fields, they propagate ballistically with the same speeds as parent particles ...

Energetic Neutral Atom Fluxes from the Heliosheath: Constraints from in situ Measurements and Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Voyager 2 observations throughout the heliosheath from the termination shock to the heliopause are used to normalize and constrain model pickup ion (PUI) fluxes.

Deducing Lunar Regolith Porosity from Energetic Neutral Atom Emission (Dataset) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
This dataset contains accompanying data for the manuscript "Deducing Lunar Regolith Porosity from Energetic Neutral Atom Emission " by P.S. Szabo et al.  In particular, an example "tri.inp" input file for SDTrimSP-3D simulations is included, as well as ...

Spherical Harmonic Representation of Energetic Neutral Atom Flux Components Observed by IBEX

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
The Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) images the heliosphere by observing energetic neutral atoms (ENAs). The IBEX-Hi instrument on board IBEX provides full-sky maps of ENA fluxes produced in the heliosphere and very local interstellar medium through
