Wavefunction Collapse and Conservation Laws [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
It is emphasized that the collapse postulate of standard quantum theory can violate conservation of energy-momentum and there is no indication from where the energy-momentum comes or to where it goes. Likewise, in the Continuous Spontaneous Localization (

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Energy Conservation in Existing Housing Sites; a Comparative Case Analysis\ud in the Netherlands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The housing sector in the Netherlands is responsible for a significant fraction of primary energy use and CO2 emissions. Great energy conservation opportunities are to be found in the existing housing stock, especially in large renovation projects on ...

Energy study of a non-residential and historic building in transient conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The purpose of this manuscript is to analyse the interventions of energy retrofit of a non-residential and historic building, through dynamic simulation by the use of the TRNsys code.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Conservation of Energy is Relevant to Physicalism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
I argue against Barbara Montero's claim that Conservation of Energy has nothing to do with physicalism. I reject her reconstruction of the argument for physicalism from CoE, and offer an alternative reconstruction that better captures the intuitions of ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Local authorities planning for urban sustainability - towards implementing energy conservation policies in development plan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This study aims to examine lessons learned from local authorities in United Kingdom on how policies on energy conservation can be incorporated in their development plan.

Quasilocal Conservation Laws: Why We Need Them

open access: yes, 2012
We argue that conservation laws based on the local matter-only stress-energy-momentum tensor (characterized by energy and momentum per unit volume) cannot adequately explain a wide variety of even very simple physical phenomena because they fail to ...

Making Heat Visible: Promoting Energy Conservation Behaviors Through Thermal Imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Householders play a role in energy conservation through the decisions they make about purchases and installations such as insulation, and through their habitual behavior. The present U.K.
