SIMULATING OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS ON MINE COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEMS

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Industrial Engineering, 2018
Compressed air systems are one of the most significant energy users on mines, with a contribution of about 20 per cent to the total electrical energy consumption on a mine.

The combined influence of different compositions of grinding media and surfactants on the efficiency of the clinker grinding process

open access: yesВестник Дагестанского государственного технического университета: Технические науки
Objective. Currently, cement is crushed in mills to a specific surface area of 2500-3000 and 3500-4500 cm2/g or more. Further grinding of clinker sharply worsens the properties of the resulting product.

Healthy learning environments

open access: yesSpool, 2015
A good school environment is paramount to the performance and health of the pupils and teachers. However, the quality of school buildings in the Netherlands is in general not so good, with 80% of them not complying with good practices for the indoor ...

Agricultural applications: energy uses and audits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
On-farm energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important in the context of rising energy costs and concerns over greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Energy inputs represent a major and rapidly increasing cost to the growers around the world.

Grid Integration Costs of Fluctuating Renewable Energy Sources

open access: yes, 2014
The grid integration of intermittent Renewable Energy Sources (RES) causes costs for grid operators due to forecast uncertainty and the resulting production schedule mismatches.

Computational and Energy Costs of Cryptographic Algorithms on Handheld Devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Networks are evolving toward a ubiquitous model in which heterogeneous devices are interconnected. Cryptographic algorithms are required for developing security solutions that protect network activity. However, the computational and energy limitations

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The Energy Costs of Historic Preservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We explore the impact of historical preservation policies on domestic energy consumption. Using panel data for England from 2006 to 2013 and employing a fixed effects strategy, we document that (i) rising national energy prices induce an increase in home

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...
