Energy Dissipation and Stability of Propagating Surfaces
Physical Review Letters, 2005Thermodynamic equilibrium states are given by the minimum of a convex free energy function with suitable boundary conditions. Nonconvexity may lead to the coexistence of several phases and the classical Gibbs phase rule allows constructing their equilibrium properties (e.g., density or pressure).

Passive Energy Dissipation Devices
2013In this chapter, the supplemental passive energy dissipation devices, metallic or hysteretic dampers, frictional, viscoelastic and viscous (linear and non-linear) dampers, developed and studied over the years, are briefly described. For each type of device, the physical, mechanical and technological aspects are analysed by describing the construction ...

Energy dissipation in stepped waterway
1997Stepped watewaterway were commonly used to assist with energy dissipation of the flow during the 19th and early 20th centuries. There is unfortunately ittle modern infomration onte rate of energy dissipation in flat channels. A new series of invesigations is presented with a focus on a 3.4 degree slope.
