Adaptable Energy Systems Integration by Modular, Standardized and Scalable System Architectures: Necessities and Prospects of Any Time Transition

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Energy conversion and distribution of heat and electricity is characterized by long planning horizons, investment periods and depreciation times, and it is thus difficult to plan and tell the technology that optimally fits for decades.

An inertia‐emulation‐based cooperative control strategy and parameters design for multi‐parallel energy storage system in islanded DC microgrids

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2022
This paper proposes an inertia‐emulation‐based cooperative control strategy for the multi‐parallel energy storage system (ESS) to meet the requirements of state‐of‐charge (SoC) balance, inertia enhancement and zero‐steady‐state voltage deviation.

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Plasma‐activated media selectively induces apoptotic death via an orchestrated oxidative stress pathway in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) is the most common and aggressive type of ovarian cancer with urgent need for new treatment strategies. This study evaluates plasma‐activated media (PAM) as a novel treatment for HGSOC, showing its ability to selectively induce oxidative stress and apoptosis in HGSOC cell lines, patient ascites cells and primary

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Energy Efficiency Policy

open access: yes, 2010
Energy not used is arguably the best, cheapest and the least environmentally damaging source of supply and nowadays the concept of "negawatts" in energy strategies world wide is being introduced as a new, significant source of energy. However, energy efficiency being typically demand side option is hard to implement and requires carefully defined ...

Optimised controlled charging of electric vehicles under peak power-based electricity pricing

open access: yesIET Smart Grid, 2020
This study presents a practical control method for electric vehicle (EV) charging optimisation for detached and attached houses. The developed EV charging control method utilises real-time measurements to minimise charging costs of up to two EVs in a ...

Energy efficiency-spectral efficiency trade-off of transmit antenna selection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate the energy efficiency-spectral efficiency (EE-SE) trade-off of transmit antenna selection/maximum ratio combining (TAS) scheme. A realistic power consumption model (PCM) is considered, and it is shown that using TAS can provide significant
