Energy efficiency with an application container

open access: yesTURKISH JOURNAL OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING & COMPUTER SCIENCES, 2018
Efficient use of energy is an issue that the information technology (IT) world gives prominence to both in academia and industry. Cloud computing and the Internet of things, today's most popular subjects, make the efficient use of resources and energy even more important.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Spatial features of CO2 for occupancy detection in a naturally ventilated school building

open access: yesIndoor Environments
Accurate occupancy information helps to improve building energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Occupancy detection methods based on CO2 sensors have received attention due to their low cost and low intrusiveness.

Distributed Control Strategy for Autonomous Operation of Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
This paper proposes a distributed control strategy that considers several source characteristics to achieve reliable and efficient operation of a hybrid ac/dc microgrid. The proposed control strategy has a two-level structure.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Comparison of Different Numerical Models for Solidification of Paraffin-Based PCMs and Evaluation of the Effect of Variable Mushy Zone Constant

open access: yesEnergies
The impact of the mushy zone parameter (Amushy) and the chosen numerical model during the solidification of a commercial paraffin-type phase change material (PCM) in a vertical cylinder under T-history conditions was examined through numerical ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

A Generalized Method for Estimation of Industrial Energy Savings from Capital and Behavioral Programs

open access: yes, 2011
In 2005, NEEA engaged the food processing industry in the Northwest with a behavior based program called Continuous Energy Improvement (CEI). Industrial energy efficiency programs have historically been limited to large capital projects because savings ...

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,
