An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Numerical Study on the Interaction Characteristics between Attached Cavitation and Velocity Boundary Layer under Different Working Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
Attached cavitation often occurs on the blade surface of hydraulic machinery, negatively affecting its performance. The SST k-ω turbulence model and SS cavitation model are employed to calculate the attached cavitation on the surface of the NACA0015 ...

Correlating Electronic Structure and Device Physics with Mixing Region Morphology in High‐Efficiency Organic Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2022
The donor/acceptor interaction in non‐fullerene organic photovoltaics leads to the mixing domain that dictates the morphology and electronic structure of the blended thin film.

Empirical determination of charm quark energy loss and its consequences for azimuthal anisotropy

open access: yes, 2012
We propose an empirical model to determine the form of energy loss of charm quarks due to multiple scatterings in quark gluon plasma by demanding a good description of production of D mesons and non-photonic electrons in relativistic collision of heavy ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A Numerical Analysis of the Hybrid Nanofluid (Ag+TiO2+Water) Flow in the Presence of Heat and Radiation Fluxes

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
The hydrothermal characteristics of (Ag+TiO2+H2O) hybrid nanofluid three dimensional flow between two vertical plates, in which the right permeable plate stretches as well as rotates, are investigated by employing varying magnetic, heat and radiation ...

Jet Observables of Parton Energy Loss in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions

open access: yes, 2009
While strong attenuation of single particle production and particle correlations has provided convincing evidence for large parton energy loss in the QGP, its application to jet tomography has inherent limitations due to the inclusive nature of the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Analysis of Energy Flow in a Mid-Sized Electric Passenger Vehicle in Urban Driving Conditions

open access: yesWorld Electric Vehicle Journal, 2023
Because of emissions of exhaust gases, global warming is proceeding, and air pollution has increased. Thus, many countries are manufacturing eco-friendly vehicles, including electric vehicles.
