Fluctuating Heavy Quark Energy Loss in Strongly-Coupled Quark-Gluon Plasma

open access: yes, 2015
Results from an energy loss model that includes thermal fluctuations in the energy loss for heavy quarks in a strongly-coupled plasma are shown to be qualitatively consistent with single particle data from both RHIC and LHC.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Radiative and Collisional Jet Energy Loss in a Quark-Gluon Plasma

open access: yes, 2008
We calculate radiative and collisional energy loss of hard partons traversing the quark-gluon plasma created at RHIC and compare the respective size of these contributions.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Multi‑objective Cooperative Control Strategy of Energy Storage Battery for Primary Frequency Regulation

open access: yesTaiyuan Ligong Daxue xuebao
[Purposes] The integration of large-scale renewable energy into the power grid leads to the reduction of equivalent moment of inertia in the frequency control process and the shortage of standby capacity of traditional thermal power units for frequency ...

Plasma Energy Loss into Kaluza-Klein Modes

open access: yes, 2000
Recently, Barger {\em et al.} computed energy losses into Kaluza Klein modes from astrophysical plasmas in the approximation of zero density for the plasmas. We extend their work by considering the effects of finite density for two plasmon processes. Our

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Comparing energy loss phenomenology

open access: yes, 2009
High-pT particle production is suppressed in heavy ion collisions due to parton energy loss in dense QCD matter. Here we present a systematic comparison of two different theoretical approximations to parton energy loss calculations: the opacity expansion
