Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Climate models with moderate climate sensitivity best simulate the magnitude of Earth's energy imbalance [PDF]

open access: yesEarth System Dynamics
Recent studies have highlighted that state-of-the-art climate models are not able to simulate the large observed trend in Earth's energy imbalance. Here we evaluate climate models' ability to represent both the trend and the magnitude of the imbalance ...

Relation between Tsunami Magnitude and Wave Energy

open access: yes, 1980
Based on the attenuation of the maximum wave height with the distance along the continental shelf from the earthquake epicenter, the tsunami magnitude of Imamura-Iida scale, m, are determined.

How large is the owner-renter divide in energy efficient technology? Evidence from an OECD cross-section

open access: yes, 2015
When the agent making an investment decision is different from the one bearing the costs of the decision, the outcome (energy usage, here) is socially sub-optimal, a scenario known in the energy efficient technology case as "split incentive" effect ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

The Flow Behavior of Organic Liquids Inside Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesФізика і хімія твердого тіла, 2016
Within the methods of electron density functional and ab initio pseudopotential, it were obtained the spatial distributions of density of valence and the total energy for migration of water (or methanol) inside carbon nanotubes with clean walls and lined

Forecasts on the dark energy anisotropic stress for the esa euclid survey [PDF]

open access: yes
The cosmological constant Λ seems to be a not satisfactory explanation of the late-time accelerated expansion of the Universe, for which a number of experimental evidences exist; therefore, it has become necessary in the last years to consider ...

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the
