Energy metabolism controls phenotypes by protein efficiency and allocation
Significance Organisms use the central carbon metabolism for both breakdown of substrate into biomass precursors and extraction of energy, making the pathways overlapping.

We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Maternal high-fat diet consumption impairs exercise performance in offspring
The aim of the present study was to scrutinise the influence of maternal high-fat diet (mHFD) consumption during gestation and lactation on exercise performance and energy metabolism in male mouse offspring.

Short- and medium-chain fatty acids in energy metabolism: the cellular perspective
Short- and medium-chain fatty acids (SCFAs and MCFAs), independently of their cellular signaling functions, are important substrates of the energy metabolism and anabolic processes in mammals.

The authors analyzed the spatial distributions of gene and metabolite profiles in cervical cancer through spatial transcriptomic and spatially resolved metabolomic techniques. Pivotal genes and metabolites within these cases were then identified and validated.

Genotype networks, innovation, and robustness in sulfur metabolism [PDF]
Metabolic networks are complex systems that comprise hundreds of chemical reactions which synthesize biomass molecules from chemicals in an organism's environment. The metabolic network of any one organism is encoded by a metabolic genotype, defined by a set of enzyme-coding genes whose products catalyze the network's reactions. Each metabolic genotype

Brown Adipose Tissue Energy Metabolism in Humans
The demonstration of metabolically active brown adipose tissue (BAT) in humans primarily using positron emission tomography coupled to computed tomography (PET/CT) with the glucose tracer 18-fluorodeoxyglucose (18FDG) has renewed the interest of the ...

Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...
