Energy Efficient Distributed Systems for Storage Servers
2011 Third International Conference on Intelligent Networking and Collaborative Systems, 2011The electric power consumption of servers hasto be reduced in information systems in order to realize green societies. In information systems, clients issue requests to servers and the servers spend electric power to handle the requests. We have to reduce the power consumption of servers since servers mainly consume electric power compared with clients.

Integrating energy efficiency and security for storage systems
2008 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2008Security requirements and power management have become important criteria for data storage systems in today's world of information security. There exist many security approaches and power optimization techniques for storage systems but most of the existing approaches either concentrate on security or power management.

On the Efficiency of Competitive Energy Storage
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019When energy storage is employed to facilitate large-scale integration of intermittent renewable electricity generation, do competitive bulk power markets continue to provide incentives for efficient investment? This essay adds competitively-supplied storage to a Boiteux-Turvey model of an electric power system with two types of periods.

On the Latency and Energy Efficiency of Distributed Storage Systems
IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing, 2017The increase in data storage and power consumption at data-centers has made it imperative to design energy efficient distributed storage systems (DSS). The energy efficiency of DSS is strongly influenced not only by the volume of data, frequency of data access and redundancy in data storage, but also by the heterogeneity exhibited by the DSS in these ...

Optimal sizing of energy storage for efficient integration of renewable energy
IEEE Conference on Decision and Control and European Control Conference, 2011In this paper, we study the optimal storage investment problem faced by an owner of renewable generator the purpose of which is to support a portion of a local demand. The goal is to minimize the long-term average cost of electric bills in the presence of dynamic pricing as well as investment in storage, if any.

Evaluating impact of storage on smartphone energy efficiency
Proceedings of the 2013 ACM conference on Pervasive and ubiquitous computing adjunct publication, 2013We present an experimental study of how storage techniques impact energy consumption in smartphones. We design and implement a system that tracks I/O activities of smartphones in real-time and dynamically changes storage configuration by matching I/O patterns in order to reduce energy consumption.
