We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Energetical analysis of two different configurations of a liquid-gas compressed energy storage [PDF]
In order to enhance the spreading of renewable energy sources in the Italian electric power market, as well as to promote self-production and to decrease the phase delay between energy production and consumption, energy storage solutions are catching on.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Investigation of insulation properties and synergistic effects in CF3I/N2 gas mixtures using the Boltzmann equation [PDF]
CF3I is regarded as a highly promising substitute for SF6; however, due to its high boiling point, buffer gases such as N2 must be blended. To evaluate the feasibility of replacing SF6 and its mixtures with CF3I/N2, a comparative analysis was conducted ...

Porous materials in building energy technologies—a review of the applications, modelling and experiments [PDF]
Improving energy efficiency in buildings is central to achieving the goals set by Paris agreement in 2015, as it reduces the energy consumption and consequently the emission of greenhouse gases without jeopardising human comfort.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Hydrogen at the rooftop: Compact CPV-hydrogen system to convert sunlight to hydrogen [PDF]
Despite being highest potential energy source, solar intermittency and low power density make it difficult for solar energy to compete with the conventional power plants. Highly efficient concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) system provides best technology to
