Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Multiple Knee Points in the Degradation of a Commercial Lithium-ion Battery: A Case Study of the NCM/Graphite System

open access: yesElectrochemistry
Lithium-ion batteries are used on an increasingly large scale, making their lifetime prediction a critical issue. Especially, a rapid decrease in capacity after the mild degradation period, referred to as the knee point, is often observed, and thus ...

Synergistic effect of a Berlin green framework for highly efficient moisture-electric energy transformation

open access: yesEnergy & Environmental Science
We developed a novel moisture-induced power generator by utilizing Berlin green as an active material to enhance its moisture-electric energy transformation performance.

Energy Transfer Using Unitary Transformations [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2013
We study the unitary time evolution of a simple quantum Hamiltonian describing two harmonic oscillators coupled via a three-level system. The latter acts as an engine transferring energy from one oscillator to the other and is driven in a cyclic manner by time-dependent external fields.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The role of projects of common interest in reaching Europe’s energy policy targets

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
The European Union aims to achieve climate-neutrality by 2050, with interim 2030 targets including 55% greenhouse gas emissions reduction compared to 1990 levels, 10 Mt of domestic green hydrogen production, and 50 Mt of domestic CO _2 injection capacity

The Economic and Social Dimension of Energy Transformation in the Face of the Energy Crisis: The Case of Poland

open access: yesEnergies
Energy transformation in Poland, including the need to accelerate the shift away from hard coal and lignite in the power system, has been taking place in the face of the energy crisis.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
