The Torrefaction of Agricultural and Industrial Residues: Thermogravimetric Analysis, Characterization of the Products and TG-FTIR Analysis of the Gas Phase

open access: yesEnergies
Four biomass residues–rosemary pomace, rosemary cake, grape seed and apple pomace–were torrefied at 250, 350 and 450 °C, and the physical, chemical and structural changes were characterized.

Enhancement of Bioreactor Performance Using Acclimatised Seed Sludge in Anaerobic Treatment of Chicken Slaughterhouse Wastewater: Laboratory Achievement, Energy Recovery, and Its Commercial-Scale Potential

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Lack of good management practice of chicken slaughterhouse wastewater (CSWW) has caused pollution into water bodies. In this study, the potential of seed sludge acclimatised modified synthetic wastewater (MSWW) on bioreactor performance and energy ...

Ionization Yield from Nuclear Recoils in Liquid-Xenon Dark Matter Detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The ionization yield in the two-phase liquid xenon dark-matter detector has been studied in keV nuclear-recoil energy region. The newly-obtained nuclear quenching as well as the recently-measured average energy required to produce an electron-ion pair ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Correlation and isospin dynamics of participant-spectator matter in neutron-rich colliding nuclei at 50 MeV/nucleon

open access: yes, 2012
The sensitivities of isospin asymmetry and collision geometry dependencies of participant (overlapping region)- spectator (quasiprojectile and quasitarget region) matter towards the symmetry energy using the isospin quantum molecular dynamical model are ...

Analysis of the flowability of cohesive powders using Distinct Element Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Computer simulations using Distinct Element Method (DEM) have been carried out to investigate the effect of cohesion on the flowability of polydisperse particulate systems. For this purpose, two assemblies with different values of surface energy and made

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
