First Report of Fluconazole‐Resistant Candida parapsilosis Harbouring the G458S ERG11p Substitution in a Brazilian Hospital

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 69, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Fluconazole‐resistant Candida parapsilosis is a matter of concern. Objectives To investigate fluconazole resistance among Candida parapsilosis complex isolates from patients admitted to three Brazilian hospitals, and to characterise resistance mechanisms and clonal relatedness. Patients/Methods A total of 76 C.

Repurposing Drugs as Bacteroides fragilis BFT‐3 Inhibitors in the Animal Infection Model Galleria mellonella

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1557, Issue 1, March 2026.
This work establishes a newly developed Galleria mellonella infection model as a powerful, ethical platform for studying Bacteroides fragilis pathogenesis and therapy. Leveraging this model, the study identifies MOA4 as a potent BFT‐3 inhibitor that improves host survival, increases bacterial clearance, and synergizes with antibiotics without toxicity.

Persistence of lung structural and functional alterations at one year post‐COVID‐19 is associated with increased serum PD‐L2 levels and altered CD4/CD8 ratio

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease
Background Persistent respiratory symptoms and lung abnormalities post‐COVID‐19 are public health problems. This study evaluated biomarkers to stratify high‐risk patients to the development or persistence of post‐COVID‐19 interstitial lung disease ...

The respiratory geriatric severity index (RGSI): A multidimensional prognostic tool integrating geriatric syndromes to predict in-hospital mortality in older adults with respiratory diseases

open access: yesArchives of Gerontology and Geriatrics Plus
Background and aims: Older adults hospitalized with respiratory diseases face high mortality risk, but existing prognostic models neglect geriatric vulnerability. We aimed to develop and internally validate the Respiratory Geriatric Severity Index (RGSI),

Functional expression of inwardly rectifying and ATP‐sensitive potassium channels in human pulmonary artery smooth muscle and endothelial cells

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 5, Page 1820-1839, 1 March 2026.
Abstract figure legend Inwardly rectifying (Kir2) and ATP‐sensitive (KATP) potassium channels are functionally expressed in human pulmonary artery endothelial and smooth muscle cells. The schematic illustrates how Kir2‐ and KATP‐mediated K+ efflux contributes to VM regulation and pulmonary vascular tone.

Molecular Determinants of Siglec‐10 Recognition by a Sialomimetic (9‐Ad‐6SL)

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 2, February 2026.
The development of sialic acid‐based glycomimetics have become crucial in the quest for better therapeutics based on Siglec targeting. Siglecs have progressively drawn attention over the last decades due to their involvement in autoimmune diseases, infections and cancer. Understanding the fine molecular details that govern the particular selectivity of

Molecular characterization of human respiratory syncytial virus in Mexico (season 2023–2024) through whole-genome sequencing

open access: yesScientific Reports
Human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) is a one of major cause of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) in young children and the elderly. Because genomic surveillance of hRSV is essential to understand viral evolution and the genetic variation ...
