Structured Promoter Variability in Epigenetically Regulated Operons Contributes to Surface Adaptation in Salmonella

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 2, February 2026.
We discovered that Salmonella uses structured, recurrent variation in epigenetically regulated promoter regions to fine‐tune gene expression, revealing a novel evolutionary strategy for surface adaptation.
