An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Feasibility and preliminary outcomes of a culturally adapted motivational interviewing intervention to reduce early childhood caries among children of two American Indian communities

open access: yesDiscover Public Health
Objective Early childhood caries (ECC) are prevalent among ethnic minoritized children in the US. Specifically, American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) children face the highest burden of ECC compared to other children. Oral health (OH) interventions using

Beyond Employability: Defamiliarizing Work-Integrated Learning with Community-Engaged Learning

open access: yes, 2019
Within the context of an increasing interest in forms of work-integrated learning (WIL) among governments and institutions of higher education, this essay explores the relation between WIL and community-engaged learning (CEL) in order to argue that the ...
